Smart Price and Anything Animation
Magazines produced by young people from the Youth Inclusion Project in Radford, as part of a project ran by Hyson Green based charity, the Partnership Council, have been highly praised by top media professionals from across the UK - as part of an independent review carried out by the organisation, Mediabox, who funded the magazine project.

The two magazines, named Smart Price and Anything Animation, by the young people involved, were produced over 12 weeks in just 24 after school sessions - held at the Partnership Council. The project was concieved and run by Third Sector Media team members and gave young people from the Youth Inclusion Project the chance to learn new media skills whilst producing their very own, professionally printed magazines.
All the content for the magazines was decided upon and produced by the young people, including all artwork and photography. The magazines also provided the young people, aged from 8 to 17 years, with a platform to express their views and opinions on a range of topics including music and how the local area could be improved.
Mediabox, a national funder of young people’s media projects in the UK, chose the magazines as one of ten projects for review by an independent panel of media experts.
Carl Knight from Mediabox explains;
“We undertook this review to support and recognise the achievement of those involved in producing project work by providing feedback from industry professionals, about the content and quality of the work produced - including any pointers as to how the work could be developed.”
The magazine project was well received by the panel, who commented:
“The panel were really engaged by the magazine (it was one of the few times we were all quiet!) We liked the fact that - where they were shown - the young people’s opinions had not been edited and seemed to come straight from them. This is a really good-looking and well-produced magazine. We liked hearing the young people’s views.”
Third Sector Media first ran the magazine project in 2007 for the Partnership Council, producing a magazine called Rollin’ Forever with young people from the Youth Inclusion Project, supported by 13 Souls. Rollin’ Forever was nominated for a prestigious national Phillip Lawrence Award and featured in national youth magazines including the Government’s YJ (Youth Justice) magazine.
